Painted road in Berlin

My brother just showed me this and I thought it was pretty cool. 13 gallons of paint were poured onto the road surface, creating a series of puddles at various points on the intersection. As the cars drove over it cool lines were creating, showing the movement of traffic. People are still speculating whether it's an art project or vandalism. They'd have to pretty creative vandals if you ask me.

Our mascot at SOLV headquarters...

The dog looking after our HQ and checking if anyone suspicious enters the building. Drug dealers and terrorists be aware! In addition, if you're carrying lunch- you'd better be super-cautious. SOLV would accept no lunch refund. For details read 'terms and conditions'.

James Reeve

Recently I came across the photography of James Reeve and it was his 'Lightscapes' that particularly caught my eye. Although not a particularly original subject, the way they have been shot and the composition of each one is very accomplished. Above, the lights of the Gulf of Thailand, Marseille and LA have been captured.

Clever piece of promotion for a talk by David Pidgeon called 'The Geometry of Type". Pretty relevant considering the name!

SOLV Design won the pitch to design identity and promotial items for Edinburgh College of Art Fashion Show 2010. The posters, tickets and catalogues have been all professionally printed.

Creative CD packaging

Below are some examples of unusual CD packaging. I scanned them from a cool book a while ago, but I've rediscovered them just now. Tiny details including designers/record labels are in left bottom corners. Excuse the pagination...

Fabric promotional Posters

Quite old but still cool. Really interesting promotional posters for London nightclub Fabric by Village Green who also do the graphics for Fabric's sister club Matter.

22/22 -promotional items for the event by SOLV

A series of screen-printed posters. Around 50 hand-made posters were printed in 3 different versions. Many of the posters were instantly stolen minutes after they had been posted around the college. We take it as a compliment...

300 flyers were also printed digitally and distributed also outside the college including local coffee shops, students' halls etc. More exciting photos to be published very soon!

SOLV present 22/22

The Wee Red is being taken over by ECA design collective SOLV who will be hosting this one-off night.

22/22 will be an audio/visual experience so not only have we got a line-up of Djs sure to get everyone moving but SOLV will also be designing visuals specially for the night. These will be projected as an abstract/ambient feature and create something a little bit special. Expect the unexpected

All proceeds will be split between a project promoting work at the Art College and the Graphics Degree Show.

We are currently very busy shooting and editing the visuals and working on some limited edition screen printed posters. We'll keep people posted on our progress with this...

Flames

Solv were almost done for arson as they nearly set the print workshop on fire. After creating our logo using hundreds of matchsticks, PVA and a board of MDF we wanted to see if the matches could have a 'domino' effect where each one lit the next until the whole logo was up in flames. This was achieved and we ended up with bigger flames than expected. That's what comes of playing with fire.

Visuals and projections

For the Solv event we need to think about how we recreate the club space with the use of unique lighting and projections. Above are some examples of how we might use LEDs or old neons lights to crete atmosphere.

In addition to film footage that would be projected behind the DJ there would be the possibility to use a second projector to display other imagery or text. This could be distorted somehow with the use of a mirror even.

Cool music graphics

These are just a few examples of nice music graphics I found from my iTunes music library to help get us inspired when it comes to our promotional material for the Wee Red event. I like the 'half-tone' effect that Tempa records (Skream's label) use on a lot of their vynal sleeves, almost as an identity. This effect has been used so much by amateurs getting use to photoshop and all the filters it has. Here i really think it works though, especially with the nostalgic imagery of the top design for Data.

1. Data
2. Hyperdub 5 mixtape
3. Justice
4. Skream

Edinburgh College of Art Fashion Show 2010

SOLV are currently working hard on the Edinburgh College of Art fashion Show. We have been designing the posters which will be put up around Edinburgh so it's good to think that all our hard work will be viewed by a huge number of people.

Although the deadlines are very tight for the poster, most of the work will be done when they are completed. The visual identity for the whole campaign will stem from the elements in the poster compositions. We will be posting examples of this work up here very soon. Our excuse for now can be that we're far too busy....

Anamorphosis

The distorted reflection of an object, which appears on various shapes, including cylinders and pyramids, have been analised and used by artists since 16th century. Although quite old, we have still found it very inspiring. The images below are photographs taken from Camera Obscura as well as from some library books...
